BANNON MAY SPEND AT LEAST 30 DAYS IN JAIL ACCORDING TO FEDERAL LAW
- JUST IN: A federal jury found former Trump adviser Steve Bannon guilty of contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena from the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack.
- In closing arguments, the Department of Justice described Bannon’s conduct as a betrayal to his duties as a citizen, saying he chose allegiance to Trump “over compliance to the law.”
- The Jan. 6 committee said it wanted to obtain Bannon’s documents and ask him questions because he had contact with Trump as the riot unfolded. The case is a major test of Congress’ leverage when a witness evades a House subpoena.
