Below is a photo of Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris as I remember it (photo does not belong to me).
Built in the 12th and 13th centuries, this cathedral was a jewel of medieval Gothic architecture. I learned about the history of the edifice when was in school in Paris.
I’ve walked along the the quays of the Seine River in Paris behind the cathedral a number of times. I often passed the front of the façade as I crossed Île de la Cité to and from school in the 6th arrondissement. (I lived in the 11th arrondissement, near the the site of the Bastille.)
I was tearful (?!) when I learned of the fire which happened today. I am watching this on television with sadness and a heavy heart.
The people of Paris and members of the Cahtolic faith around the world are in my thoughts and prayers.
